Compliance Advisory for Residential Furnaces in Effect as of October 1st

Rule 111 Intended to reduce air pollutants generated by natural-gas-fired furnaces

A compliance advisory requiring manufacturers, distributors, sellers and installers of residential natural-gas-fired, fan-type central furnaces will be in effect as of October 1st, 2019 by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD). This advisory stipulates that only condensing and non-condensing home furnaces certified to meet ultra-low NOx emissions at 14 ng/J, can be offered for sale, sold or installed after September 30, 2019. Any party offering to sell or install non-compliant condensing or non-condensing home furnaces will be in violation Rule 111.

“We stay on top of the most current laws in our industry and pass along that knowledge to our clientele,” stated Patrick Somers, President and CEO of General Air Conditioning and Plumbing. “Natural-gas-fired furnaces not in compliance create air pollutants that contribute to environmental issues such as smog. We have a responsibility to support those laws and incentives ultimately intended to improve our quality of life.”

Incentives developed by the South Coast AQMD Governing Board are already in effect. The first 6,000 compliant furnaces purchased and installed will qualify for up to a $500 rebate. After this cap is exceeded, the rebate reduces to $300 for condensing furnaces and $200 for non-condensing, weatherized, or mobile home furnaces. Rebates will continue to be provided until funding is exhausted.

For more information about the new regulation and how to take advantage of the rebates, contact General Air Conditioning and Plumbing at (760) 205-9917.
